Pre-Thanksgiving celebration with The String Be-In’s featuring Ted Silverman, Pat Echols & Mike Margulies

To ring in Thanksgiving, String Be-in reconnects long-time mates Ted Silverman (guitar, mandolin, bass, vocals) Pat Echols (guitar, ukulele, vocals) and Mike Margulies (guitar, keys, bass, vocals).

Each has carved various niches since they first started playing together around 1991.

Ted is a founding member of the Chazz Cats & Belle Monroe & Her Brewglass Boys (both Pub Favorites) and he takes every opportunity to play just about any stringed instrument with a host of other Bay Area groups. As a founding member of the perennial favorite San Diego jam band The Travel Agents in the late 80’s, Pat moved to Fairfax in 1988 and has played with a number of local groups including “Subspace Chatter” (w/ Ted), “Thoze Guize,” and his own ensembles. Mike recently relocated back to the Bay Area after a stint on the East Coast where he was multi-instrumentalist & vocalist for Left At Greenland, a Beatles-heavy Connecticut club favorite. Come enjoy this trio as they prime Iron Springs Pub for the Thanksgiving to come with a variety of folk rock, bluegrass and Americana-flavored cover tunes and original songs.

February 9 – Cascade Canyon School Cascade Canyon is a small, independent, progressive, co-educational K-8 school serving families in Marin County from our campus in Fairfax, California. Since the school opened in 1981, we have dedicated ourselves to offering progressive education in a small, community-oriented setting. Our multi-age classes of no more than fifteen students, in combination with our balanced, integrated curriculum foster our students’ natural creativity and desire to learn.
February 16 – Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT) Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT) was the first land trust in the United States to focus on farmland preservation. Founded in 1980 by a coalition of ranchers and environmentalists to preserve farmland in Marin County, California, MALT acquires agricultural conservation easements on farmland in voluntary transactions with landowners. MALT also encourages public policies that support and enhance agriculture. It is a model for agricultural land preservation efforts across the nation. MALT has so far permanently protected more than 41,500 acres of land on 64 family farms and ranches. For more information visit www.malt.org .

February 23 – San Anselmo Cooperative Nursery School Founded originally in 1947 as the Fairfax Community Nursery School, the San Anselmo Co-Op is celebrating its 63nd year in operation. Except for the faces of the children and their parents, since then little has changed. The goal of the preschool is to foster physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual growth in each child. The school provides a unique experience for families who wish to be involved in their children’s education and learn alongside them. By sharing parenting issues, insights, joys and struggles, parents gain a sense of community with one another and a greater understanding of their own child’s development. Through their participation, parents create the kind of school they desire for their children. Their many talents, strengths and interests provide the energy that fuels the school. By relying on parent ingenuity, teamwork and labor, we keep fees low and the school available to a wide spectrum of people. Find out more at www.sananselmocoop.com.

BREWERY NEWS

As we mentioned above, 2009 was an exciting year in the brewery. Now we have some exciting and lofty goals for 2010! We hope you will see more of our bottled beer out in the marketplace! With any luck, we’ll add a couple more styles to our line as well – keep your fingers crossed.

We are also working on a very special, limited release in 750 ml corked bottles of a special Chazz Cat Rye that has been aging in a Dasche Zinfandel French Oak Barrel, innoculated with brettanomyces, then infused with fuyu persimmons. This is a Christian Kazakoff specialty that you won’t want to miss. We will only have about 20 cases of this special beer, which we are calling Rye the Funk Not? We are working on a wonderful label with artwork by our own Prairie Skye – our in house artist and manager extraordinaire.

In January, look for the release of the ever-popular Black Lager – the Dark Path Lager. This should be released in the next week or two.
