Kent Lake Kolsch 2

*WINNER, BRONZE MEDAL, 2011 GREAT AMERICAN BEER FESTIVAL, GOLDEN/BLONDE ALE*

Our rendition of this classic from Cologne is brewed with all German ingredients.  This light and crisp ale holds many characteristics of a lager with some tangy and tart notes. Water for this beer is locally sourced from Kent Lake.

I had your excellent kolsch in a growlette from Hopsy and I tried to home brew something half as good. And did. I might be able to brew something three quarters as good if I knew your grain bill. I’ve seen recipes that include, in addition to German pilsner: wheat, carapils, and vienna. What’s yours (please)?

i use a recipe similar to 80% pilsner malt, and a 6% vienna, 6% munich, 7.5% wheat, and .05% acidulated. hopped lightly with hallertau MF. shoot for an OG of 1.040, use kolsch yeast and ferment at 67*f. lager for two weeks in 2ndary @ 32*f
